In-house design, planning and production
Cylindroconical ZMI fermenters are part of the SK Škrlj mini brewing system product line and their entire production process (design to final product) is carried out in-house. They are manufactured in series. Standard dimensions and equipment shorten the planning and production processes, which is why ZMI fermenters are sold at a lower price and can be delivered quickly. Our offer includes atmospheric and pressure ZMI tanks (0 to +2.5 bar) in the following capacities: 250, 500, 1000, 1500, and 2000 liters.
ZMI fermenters can be used for beer fermentation and maturation.

Energy efficiency and hygiene
No energy loss. The fermenter's wall and conical bottom have a double jacket. The internal jacket is equipped with cooling surfaces (pillow plate). The space between the internal and external jackets is insulated with polyurethane foam (50 mm). Thanks to this effective insulation system, temperature variations inside the tank are small, which means not much energy is needed to maintain the desired temperature.
Drain and racking port at conical bottom. The removable drain and racking connectors are placed at the conical bottom. This racking connector design reduces beer loss that might otherwise occur due to sediment buildup.
Hygienic manway, Ø 420 mm, outswing. The outswing door design reduces the risk of internal tank surface and product contamination with impurities that may accumulate on the door surface, which often happens with inswing doors. It also makes it much easier to add yeast and carry out the dry hopping process.
Hygienic sampling tap. The sampling tap is made of stainless steel and equipped with a silicone tube on the inside (FDA compliant). There is no fluid buildup inside the tap and the silicone tube can be very easily replaced.
Certified materials, processes, and final products
What do you need to know before buying a pressure tank?
A pressure tank must always be equipped with an identification plate containing the tank's serial number, as well as the information, required by the Pressure Equipment Directive.
Each pressure tank must be registered with a local PED notified body. To do this you must submit the tank's technical documentation, as well as all required production and safety equipment certificates.
If you are trying to decide which pressure tank to buy, always make sure it has all the required product documentation, including the Declaration of Conformity, which must contain the tank's serial number and the approval of a notified body.
The Declaration of Conformity can also be obtained after the tank has been bought, which presents some additional costs. However, if the notified body determines that the purchased equipment was not manufactured in accordance with the applicable standards or that the materials and processes used are not traceable, you may not receive their approval, which means you would not be able to use the tank.

Škrlj ZMI fermenters
ZMI fermenters fall into the category of pressure vessels. The maximum allowable pressure inside such tank is 2.5 bar, while the pressure inside the double jacket can be up to 3.0 bar. In order to ensure user safety, the tank must be manufactured in accordance with the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED 2014/68/EU).
ZMI fermenters are designed and manufactured based on precise pressure calculations and equipped with safety equipment that enables technically sound and safe operation. Each of our tanks is also equipped with its complete technical documentation, which contains a technical description, tank information, strength calculation, and technical drawings. The documentation ensures complete material, production process, and testing traceability. Once the fermenter is finished, it goes through a final inspection and is subjected to a pressure test.
The inspection of the ZMI fermenters and their conformity with the PED Directive 2014/68/EU must be approved by the PED notified body TÜV SÜD. Purchasing our fermenters means you receive all the documentation, which is necessary to register your pressure tank with the local notified body, at no extra cost.
